ADVANCED ANSWER

実のところかなり落ち込んでいるんだよ。ガールフレンドと大げんかしたんだ。
I’m feeling rather down, to be honest. I had a big fight with my girlfriend.
 
先週土曜日に彼女を連れ出す約束をしたんだけど、その代わり友達とサッカーの試合に行ってしまったんだ。
I promised to take her out last Saturday, but I went to a soccer match with some friends instead.
 
instead は「代わりに」。
 
I haven’t found a way to make up. I’m so depressed that I’ve even taken time off work.
 
make up は「仲直りをする」というカジュアルな表現。最後の文で、take time off work は「仕事から時間を take する(奪う)」というイメージ。
