昨晩カラオケに来てくれたコウタに、リンがお礼を言います。
Ron: Thanks for coming to cheer up Sayaka last night.
Kota: My pleasure. It was a lot of fun. I love singing karaoke with friends.
Ron: Thanks to all the singing, she got over the disappointment of losing the game.
Kota: I hope so. It wasn’t her fault that the team lost. She played her best, and the other players were satisfied with the result.
Ron: We will definitely win next year!
Kota: That’s the spirit.

①動詞 -ing 形を目的語位置に置く
I love singing karaoke with friends.
この文では love の目的語位置に、動詞 -ing 形の singing karaoke with friends が置かれ、友達と歌うのが大好きだ となっています。
Love の目的語には、to 不定詞も 動詞 -ing 形も置くことができますが、to 不定詞には「～ということ」といった現実感の薄い一般的な内容を述べている感覚がある一方、動詞 -ing 形には現実に何か出来事が起こっているようなリアルな感じがします。この文では実際にカラオケに行って歌っているため、リアルな動詞 -ing 形が優先となります

②it … that～を語順どおり理解する
It wasn’t her fault that the team lost.
おなじみの it … that～ の形です。it は「受ける」単語。心に浮かんだ情景を it で受け、まず思い切って It wasn’t her fault …（彼女の失敗ではなかったんだ）と文を始めることが肝心です。そして that 節を置いて、何が失敗でなかったのか – it の内容を説明していきましょう。

She got over the disappointment of losing the game.
get over は「乗り越える」。なぜこうした意味になるかと言えば、over のイメージが「上に円弧」だからです。動詞 get の表す動きと相まって、ハードルを越えていくような円弧の軌跡が感じられる表現です。
over の「上に円弧」のイメージからはさまざまな使い方が生じます。次の文は「上に円弧」から「越えている・覆う」。
Most of my teachers are over 40.
Put this blanket over you.
上の文で above は使えません。「覆う・掛ける」は over。
次は over の少しユニークな使い方を。
