Hello, Jessica. Thanks for coming to my lecture. How was it?
It was wonderful. I learned so much.
That’s very kind of you to say so.
Well, it’s true. To illustrate your points, you often used examples from your personal experience. I loved that.
I think that makes the lecture much more interesting. Otherwise, the audience would fall asleep!
Ha-ha! Today, everyone was completely absorbed in your lecture.
That’s good to hear. Now, how about some tea?
Sota, what do you think of Tom?
Tom? He joined our shogi club last month. He’s a really good shogi player.
I know, but now I have a problem with him. You see, he told me he loved me.
What? Why is that a problem? And why are you telling me?
Well, I’m not sure what I should do. I’m not interested in him in that way.
No wonder he is always asking me questions about you.
OK, everyone. Please come back to the bus at 11:15.
I’ve always wanted to see a Japanese convenience store. What are these triangle-shaped things?
Those are called onigiri, or rice balls.
Oh, I’ve never tried them.
Actually, they’re delicious. You have your choice of salmon, pickled plum or tuna salada.
I’ll get the tuna salad.
Good choice. That’s my favorite too.
How do you open it?
It’s a bit tricky, so I’ll show you how later.
Hi, David.
Hi, honey. Listen, something just came up at work.
What is it?
Well, my boss just asked me to check an important report.
In other words, you’re going to be late! What should I do? We have a reservation for the restaurant for 7:00. It’s our anniversary.
I know, but there’s no way I can be home by 7:00. Eight should be possible.
OK. I’ll change the reservation to 8:00.
Thanks, honey.

SAY IT ENGLISH②
I asked one of my friends to take me to the Botan Botanical Garden, but she just said, “It’s difficult.” What does she mean exactly?
表現例
In other words, your friend is saying she doesn’t want to take you.
This is a typical Japanese euphemism. Japanese people don’t like to say no.
