次の文、not knowing what to do は「理由」を表しています。「なにをすべきかわからなかったので、」。wh 語と to 不定詞のコンビネーション what to …(何を~すべきか)にも注意。keep on …は「~し続ける」。前置詞の目的語は動詞 -ing 形ですね。
