Today’s dialog
マウンテンバイクレースを明日に控え、スタッフとそのリーダーが当日の動きについて確認しています。
Staff Member: What time does the mountain bike race start?
Leader: It start at 9 a.m., so staffers need to be in their designated positions by 8:30.
Staff Member: OK, I’ll try to be there a little early.
Leader: Good. We had some accidents resulting in injuries at last year’s race, so I need you ready to act. Please have the emergency medical kits open just in case.
Staff Member: I’m getting a little nervous now.
Leader: Relax. All you have to do is remember the basic treatments. If you get into trouble, contact me by phone, not email, as soon as possible.
Staff Member: OK. See you tomorrow.

I need you ready to act.
この文は、目的語説明型の文。目的語の説明を後続の説明語句が行う型です。この型には、修飾の万能ルールのひとつ「説明ルール」が働いています。目的語 you を ready to act(行動の準備ができた)が説明し「you=ready to act である必要がある」という意味となっています。
Just call me Ken.

I’m sure I heard the baby crying. I’ll go and check.
