Alana: Happy New Year, Hiroki. It’s good to see you again.
Hiroki: Happy New Year to you, Alana. Yes, it has been a while.
Alana: What have you been up to recently?
Hiroki: Well, we had a New Year’s party, and the boss paid for everything!
Alana: Lucky you! We also had a company party, and the boss wouldn’t stop singing. He can be wild at times.
Hiroki: Sounds like it. But it’s good to get rid of stress, right?
Alana: Right.

can のイメージは「潜在」。ある人の中に「潜在する力」から「能力（～できる）」の意味が、ある人が潜在的に持っている自由度に焦点を当てると「許可（～できますよ）」の意味が生まれます。「～しうる」は、「潜在的に持っている性質」。この文は、ボスが「手に負えない」性質を持っていることを見抜いているのです。
