Today’s dialog
ジュリアを交えた食事会を楽しみにしていたカルビンですが、ジュリアが急用で･･･。
Calvin: So, Julia, we’ll see you at the restaurant at six, right?
Julia: Actually, something just came up. Could you tell the guys I won’t be able to make it to this evening’s get-together?
Calvin: Oh, no! What happened?
Julia: I have to work overtime tonight.
Calvin: All the guys will be disappointed. They were looking forward to you being there.
Julia: I know, I wanted to go. But the boss said it needs to be done tonight.
Calvin: What a party pooper!

なぜtakeでなく、tookなのですか。
お忙しいところ恐れ入りますが、ご教授頂けないでしょうか。
自分はもう学校出てから40年以上経っているので正確なのかどうか、回答に自信がありませんが、こういう場合に考えられるのは「時制の一致」か「仮定法」です。
この場合、そのどちらが正しいのかわかりませんが、時制の一致なら Would ですから took、仮定法の場合は、「一歩引いた表現」ですから took で、と思っています。
ここでもっと詳しい正確な回答があれば嬉しいのですが･･･
