Minayo: What is your favorite area?
Kenny: Well, I like Minato Mirai and Yamashita Park, but I’d have to say Chinatown is my favorite.
Minayo: Yes, there is so much energy and excitement there. Of course, I’m proud of Yokohama, since Yokohama is the city where I was born.
Kenny: Oh, really? So, can you recommend a good restaurant in Chinatown? I’m getting hungry.
Minayo: Actually, you probably know more about the good places that I do. I was born here, but our family moved to Sendai when I was five. A lot has changed.

recommend は使う頻度の高い重要動詞。丸ごと覚えましょう。

Yokohama is the city where I was born.
この文は「関係副詞」 where を使った文。where は先行詞 the city が、後続の節で I was born in the city.（その街で生まれた）と場所を表す副詞の働きをすることを指定しています（だから「関係副詞」と呼ばれるのです）。where は関係代名詞のように先行詞と場所を表す空所をしっかり組み合わせています。
同じ内容を which を使って言えば
Yokohama is the city which I was born in.
こちらには in が必要となります。
which は関係「代名詞」。先行詞と目的語や主語にある空所（名詞）を組み合わせるから。
where はその先行詞が、there（そこで）、at the bus stop（バス停で）、on the street（道で）、in the office（オフィスで）など「場所を表す副詞」であることを示しているのです。
次の文でも、the park が後続節で「場所を表す副詞」として働いていることを意識してください。
This is the park where I go jogging every morning.
関係副詞の where は city、office（会社）などの場所以外にも case（場合）、situation（状況）、circumstance（状況）など、比喩的な「場所」にも使うことができます。また先行詞が -where がつくもの（everywhere など）や place である場合、修飾にわざわざ where を用いる必要がないことも覚えておきましょう。決まり文句となっているのです。

関係副詞 where の練習。先行詞が後続の節で副詞の働きをしていることを意識してください。
Liverpool is the city where Chris lived a ages ago.
the city を where でつないでいきましょう。後続の節で「クリスが昔そこに住んでいた」と副詞の働きをしています。ages ago の代わりは long time ago 等。
This is the lake where I learned to water-ski.
the lake を where でつなぎます。後続の節で「私はそこで水上スキーを習った」という意味関係になっていますね。
Think of a situation where you are in deep trouble.
where が比喩的な「場所」に使われた例です。「その状況下でひどいトラブルに巻き込まれている」と文中で a situation が副詞として働いています。think of を imagine に置き換えても可。
