Listening Challenge!
Aki: You’re talking about the stone tablet?
Peacock: Of course. It is a kind of puzzle, don’t you think?
Aki: That’s one way of looking at it.
Peacock: You look like you’re holding something back, Aki. Please, tell me.
Aki: Well, OK. It’s true I’ve solved it, but the message is disappointing.
Peacock: I’ll be the judge of that. Come on.
Aki: OK. In order, the words are: “Here was… Scot…Yaz.”
Peacock: So, it says “Scot Yaz was here”? Who is Scot Yaz?
Aki: I have no idea. I told you it was disappointing.
A: Aki hasn’t solved the puzzle yet.
B: The man knows Scot Yaz.
C: Aki is not excited about the message.
Takuma: Me too. The interior is even more impressive than the exterior.
Kelly: I agree. This place has been on my bucket list for a long time.
Takuma: Why is it called a “bucket list” anyway?
Kelly: There’s an expression, “kick the bucket.” It’s a way of saying “die.”
Takuma: So then, it’s a list of things you want to do before you die.
Kelly: Exactly. That’s why I’m so happy to be here.
Takuma: And I’m honored to be here with you, Kelly.
A: She has always wanted to go there.
B: It has been on Takuma’s bucket list for a long time.
C: She learned about it in an interior design class.
Grandpa: Sayuri! Hello! What time is it in Japan right now?
Sayuri: Oh, it’s late at night. I couldn’t sleep. I’m worried about Roxy.
Grandpa: Why would you be worried?
Sayuri: I had a dream about her. She seemed lonely.
Grandpa: She’s as happy as ever. She’s in class at the university today. You know, Roxy’s doing very well.
Sayuri: Really?
Grandpa: Yes. She’s the cleverest student in her archaeology class.
Sayuri: I really miss her.
Grandpa: You’ll feel better when you talk to her, I’m sure. I’ll have her call you.
Sayuri: You will? Thank you.
A: Tell Roxy to call Sayuri.
B: Let Roxy go back to Japan.
C: Tell Roxy to come back home soon.
Dr. Stein: I like Nagoya. The food here is delicious. I love the spicy chicken wings and miso katsu.
Dr. Sugimoto: I’m happy to hear you say that.
Dr. Stein: Yes, I can sense the pride of Nagoya’s people. Anyway, I see that Jeannie and Shizuka are good friends now.
Dr. Sugimoto: Yes, Shizuka is as intelligent as Jeannie. That is probably why they get along.
Dr. Stein: In terms of personality, however, Shizuka is more like Frankie.
Dr. Sugimoto: You may be right about that, Dr. Stein.
A: She is a proud person.
B: Her personality is similar to Frankie’s.
C: She hasn’t developed her own personality yet.
