Listening Challenge!

Lesson 191 可算名詞・不可算名詞:基礎

新婚夫婦のケリーとタクマの新居にタクマの両親が訪ねてくることになったようです。

Takuma: Kelly, my parents are coming over for dinner on Sunday.

Kelly: This coming Sunday? We have to clean up the apartment.

Takuma: I’ll help. Let’s go shopping tomorrow.

Kelly: What are we going to serve?

Takuma: I was thinking of Italian food. We need some olive oil and onions.

Kelly: Don’t put in too much onion. You usually use too much.

Takuma: OK. And a few bottles of red wine.

Kelly: I didn’t know your parents liked wine.

Takuma: They drink wine every weekend.

Lesson 192 思いがけない不可算名詞

キャスパーとアレクシスは自宅にいますが、キャスパーは風邪をひいているようです。

Caspar: Ahchoo!

Alexis: Caspar, did you catch a cold?

Caspar: Ah, I think I’m coming down with something.

Alexis: Drink some hot tea with honey and lemon. Honey is really good for you.

Caspar: Yeah, I know. By the way, Alexis, I was thinking we should make some changes this year.

Alexis: What do you mean?

Caspar: I want to change some furniture in the bedroom.

Alexis: Well, it’s time you got a new dresser for your clothes. Those plastic boxes are pretty shabby.

Caspar: They really are.

Lesson 193 可算名詞が不可算になるとき

俳句仲間のシンディとエモリさんがカフェで話しています。

Cindy: Mr. Emori, I got this official-looking postcard yesterday.

Mr.Emori: Let’s see. It says you need to go and renew your residence card.

Cindy: Can’t I do it online?

Mr. Emori: According to this, you need to go to the immigration office in person.

Cindy: Then I’ll probably have to take a day off from work.

Mr. Emori: It’s easy to get there from the station. You can go by bus or by taxi if you’re in a hurry.

Cindy: Oh, well. I guess I have no choice.

Lesson 194 可算・不可算で意味が変わる名詞

キャスパーとアレクシスの元に、 新しい家具が届きましたが・・・。

Alexis: Caspar! The furniture you ordered is here.

Caspar: OK. Whoa, this dresser looks bigger than I remembered.

Alexis: I hope there’s enough room in the bedroom?

Caspar: I measured it, so it should be fine.

Alexis: Anyway, we don’t have time to set it up, so let’s just leave it here for now.

Caspar: Right. We’d better get going, or we’ll be late for our dental appointment.

Alexis: Yes. We’ll sort out the dresser when we get back.

Caspar: Good. Let’s go.
