Today’s dialog
Caspar: They looked dirty after the rain.
Alexis: But you never clean the windows. Why are you doing that now?
Caspar: My old German teacher gave me some advice. She said, “If you want to be successful, you must clean your windows every day.”
Alexis: Really? I’ve never heard that before.
Caspar: She said it’s common for German people to clean their windows every morning.
Alexis: That’s interesting. Are you sure she didn’t mean open them? Well, either way, it’s a good habit to start.
Caspar: I think so too.

これからの内容についてif節を使う場合、結びの節には will、can、 may などの助動詞が使われます。
逆に、一般論・自然法則・習慣を表すときには、現在形が使われます。
If you heat water, it boils.: 水を熱したら、沸騰します
これからの内容について結びの節で助動詞を使わないと、「強い警告」「怒り」などの感情を表すことがあります。
