いつも風変わりな料理パーティを開くピエールからウィルとリコに招待状が･･･。
Will: You mean the one about his cherry blossom viewing party?
Riko: Yes, that’s the one.
Will: I did, but you know that I can never eat the food at his parties.
Riko: This time, we’ll all bring our own food.
Will: Right, but I’m not really good friends with Pierre.
Riko: If we don’t go to his party again, he may get disappointed.
Will: I’m sure he can handle the disappointment!
Lesson 007 語順が大切⑥：否定の not
ヤヨイとジョナスがライバル企業の出した納豆スムージーの話をしています。
Yayoi: Which article are you talking about?
Jonas: It was about how our rival company’s new natto smoothie became a huge hit.
Yayoi: You see! I had the same idea last year. I proposed that idea to the managers. They didn’t listen to my advice.
Jonas: You have to admit, a natto smoothie sounds unusual.
Yayoi: That’s why I keep telling you guys-think outside the box!
Jonas: Yeah, I guess you’re right.
Lesson 008 語順が大切⑦：時表現の前置き
会社の同僚、マナブとキャサリンが夜遅くまで接待していたようです。
Manabu: Yes, our client likes to party.
Catherine: That’s for sure. What time is it?
Manabu: Two-thirty in the morning.
Catherine: So, we can sleep for five hours at the hotel before we catch the early train. Do you have your room key?
Manabu: Of course. Oh, no! I left my wallet in the taxi!
Catherine: Don’t worry. The driver will probably find it.
Manabu: I drank too much.
Lesson 009 語順が大切⑧：前置きと後ろ置き
フレッドが出演した映画を見終わったジーナが、フレッドにその感想を伝えています。
Fred: I’m glad you enjoyed it. I wasn’t sure how it would look on screen.
Gina: I knew you were good at tap dancing, but your performance in the movie looked so dramatic!
Fred: Seriously, I didn’t practice at all before they filmed it.
Gina: That’s hard to believe. It looked very complicated.
Fred: I wonder if they will make part 2.
Gina: I hope they do. It’s a great movie.
SAY IT IN ENGLISH! ～英語で声に出して表現してみましょう～
英語で下記の内容を表現してみよう。必ず声に出して練習しよう。
①同僚から好きだと打ち明けられたあなた。でもあなたは同僚とは付き合わないことにしているのです。トラブルになる可能性もあるから。友達のままでいましょうと提案してください。
表現例
②あなたの友人は楽譜が読めません。楽器に触ったこともありません。でもロックバンドのコンサートに行った後、両親に学校を辞めてバンドを始めると言い出したようです。当然両親は大反対。「どう思う？」と尋ねる友人に答えてください。
例えば「真面目な話、ご両親のアドバイスに耳を傾けるべきです。さもないと後で悔やむことになるかもしれません」など。
