Lesson 231 比較・対照のフロー

エモリさんが持っている本についてシンディが尋ねています。

Cindy: Mr. Emori, what is that book you have?

Mr. Emori: This is a new one I bought yesterday. It’s an English translation of haiku by Kobayashi Issa.

Cindy: I’ve never heard of him. Is he like Basho?

Mr. Emori: Not really. His style is different.

Cindy: How so?

Mr. Emori: Well, I think Basho’s haiku focus on beauty and nature. In contrast, Issa focuses on more everyday themes.

Cindy: Can you give an example?

Mr. Emori: There’s a famous haiku about a child wanting to grab the moon.

Cindy: Interesting. I’ll be sure to read that book.

Lesson 232 積み重ねるフロー①

ボビーがトレーナーを務めるジムに、ヨシが久しぶりにやってきました。

Bobbie: Oh, hi, Yoshi, I haven’t seen you in ages!

Yoshi: Hi, Bobbie. I’m back. As you can see, I’ve gained some weight.

Bobbie: Yes, I do see that. But don’t worry. You can get into shape quickly.

Yoshi: Has anything changed at this gym?

Bobbie: Yes, we have a yoga studio now. We also have five new running machines.

Yoshi: Sounds good. I like those machines.

Bobbie: For you, I’d recommend the hip-hop dance class. It’s very popular. You, too, can transform your body!

オックスフォードで学生のジェシカとピーコック教授が話しています。

Peacock: Jessica, I didn’t see your name on the list of volunteers for the research trip.

Jessica: Oh, the one to Egypt?

Peacock: Yes. I thought you liked the Sphinx and the Pyramids.

Jessica: I do, of course. But I can’t go this summer, and I’ve been there already.

Peacock: But we’ll be doing more in-depth research this time. Are you sure, Jessica?

Jessica; Yes. Besides, I’ll be traveling with my boyfriend then.

Peacock: Boyfriend?

Jessica: Yes. Are you surprised, Professor?

Peacock: No. Why should I be surprised?

Lesson 234 例を示すフロー

将棋クラブのソウタとリンダが、クラブの活動計画について話し合っています。

Sota: So, Linda, I was thinking about having a shogi training camp soon.

Linda: Shogi training camp? What’s that?

Sota: It’s not an actual camp. The idea is to stay somewhere relaxing to train our members.

Linda: Where could we go?

Sota: Somewhere in the mountains. Take Omoizawa, for example. That’s a beautiful place.

Linda: It might be expensive, though.

Sota: There are ways to get around that. Look. This website, for example, is good for finding great deals.

Linda: Excellent.
