Lesson 156 発言タイプ:難易① 難易を伝える

タブレットで読書中のヘレンにギャリーが話しかけています。

Gary: Helen, are you checking social media?

Helen: No, I’m reading a book.

Gary: Oh, I thought you liked reading paper books, not e-books.

Helen: Usually I do, but this time I’m reading War and Peace by Tolstoy. It’s over a thousand pages!

Gary: It’s a massive book. I tried reading it once but gave up.

Helen: Well, it does take time.

Gary: It’s hard to find time to read books.

Helen: For me, finding time is quite easy. The hard part is finding the right book.

Gary: Good point.

Lesson 157 発言タイプ:難易② 簡単さ!

レンジと家庭教師のアオイが英語の宿題について話しています。

Aoi: So, Renji, did you finish all your English homework?

Renji: Yeah, it was so easy. I could do it with my eyes closed.

Aoi: Let me check it. Hmmm. You made a few mistakes, Renji.

Renji: What? Where?

Aoi: Number two and number seven, Look, you used the wrong tense. And you spelled this word wrong.

Renji: Oh, right. Those were just careless mistakes.

Aoi: Exactly. Careless mistakes can cause you problems on tests. Check your answers thoroughly next time.

Renji: Consider it done!

Lesson 158 発言タイプ:優先① 優先の判断

ダグとシホは南の島で、いわゆる古民家に住んでいますが、少々修繕が必要なようです。

Shiho: Doug, do you like this old house?

Doug: Sure, it’s fine. Of course, it needs some fixing up here and there.

Shiho: You don’t think it’s too old-fashioned?

Doug: Who needs a fancy house anyway?

Shiho: I feel the same way. Comfort comes before style.

Doug: That goes without saying. As long as I have a roof over my head, I’m happy.

Shiho: And we can always take a vacation to the big city if we want to.

Doug: It’s funny. City people want to come to this island for their vacations.

Shiho: Yeah. The grass is always greener, right?

Lesson 159 発言タイプ:優先② priority を使って

デイビットさんとろーざさんが番組構成について話しています。

David: Hey, Roza, you’ve been on this program for a while, right?

Roza: Yeah, I started in 2018. Time flies.

David: Whose idea was it to include the jokes?

Roza: I think that was Onishi-sensei’s idea.

David: Do we need a joke every time?

Roza: I guess not. You should talk to him about it.

David: OK. We shouldn’t get our priorities mixed up.

Roza: Exactly. We’re here to make funny jokes, not boring ones.

David: That’s not what I meant by priorities but… OK.
