Dad: I’m trying to make a Christmas dinner guest list. It’s hard to find people’s contact information.
Roxy: Don’t worry about it, Dad. I’ll take care of the invitations. The biggest problem is making the dinner.
Dad: Making a traditional Christmas dinner is easy. You liked my Thanksgiving turkey, didn’t you?
Roxy: Yeah, it was great.
Dad: The Christmas turkey will be even better. And this time, I won’t burn the pie.

Omega: I’m getting a red light on the fuel indicator. I’m going to play it safe and shut down the engine.
Houston: Very good, Omega. It’s too risky to keep the engine running with a red warning.
Omega: Agreed, Houston.
Houston: We’re working on the problem now.
Omega: Roger, Houston.

Sally: Bob, how do you paint so quickly? You’re really fast.
Bob: Well, it’s important to practice painting regularly. As the saying goes, “Use it or lose it!”
Sally: You don’t even look at the thing you’re painting.
Bob: Right, it’s of great importance to use your imagination.
Sally: But I don’t have a good imagination like you.
Bob: You can develop that too. The important thing is to relax. That really helps.

夫婦のサユリとマークが北海道旅行の延期を話し合っています。
Sayuri: I think we should postpone our trip to Hokkaido.
Mark: What? No way! We’ve been looking forward to this trip for ages.
Sayuri: I know, but have you seen the weather forecast? They’re warning of a snow storm for this weekend.
Mark: Yes, but it might not be that bad. Forecasts are often wrong.
Sayuri: Still, I don’t think we should take the risk. We can go another time.
Mark: Well, I suppose you’re right. Let’s wait until the weather is better.

①あなたが受け持っている学生から「英語が上達するためにはスピーキングを練習するしか方法はないのでしょうか」と尋ねられました。質問に答えて下さい。
例えば「スピーキングの練習は素晴らしいけど、英語の本を読むこともとても重要だと知るべきです。読書は例えば、たくさんの役に立つ表現に導いてくれますよ」など。
表現例
②妹が「お父さんの誕生日に赤いジャケットを買ってあげましょうよ」と言い出しましたが、お父さんは気に入らないかもしれません。安全策をとって万年筆を買うことを提案してください。
例えば、「うーん････。68歳の男性に赤いジャケット？ それは面白いアイデアだけれど、彼はびっくりするかもしれないなぁ。安全策をとって彼が手に入れたがっている万年筆を買ってあげようよ」など。
