Lesson 041 基本文型 主語の拡張①:to 不定詞・動詞-ing 形

ギャリーがフィオナになぜいつも歌っているのかを尋ねます。

Gary: Hey, Fiona. How come you're always singing?

Fiona: Well, I read that to sing is good for your health.

Gary: Do you really believe that?

Fiona: Of course. It has some kind of chemical effect on your brain, and you feel happier.

Gary: Mmm... I'm not convinced. Singing can't be that powerful.

Fiona: OK. How about we go to karaoke, and after that you can tell me how you feel.

Gary: Sounds good. I'm free this Friday. And you?

Fiona: Me too.

Lesson 042 主語の拡張②:that 節

今では恋人同士のマサミとトムが、ソウタについて話しています。

Masami: Tom, did talk to Sota today?

Tom: I saw him earlier. He looked different.

Masami: Didn't he? He's wearing stylish clothes today.

Tom: Yeah, I wonder why.

Masami: Guys don't change their fashion for no reason. That he's hiding something is obvious.

Tom: Do you think he's trying to impress someone?

Masami: Of course. The question is, who?

Tom: Maybe it's you.

Masami: Me? But he knows I'm dating you now.

Tom: Yeah, and I don't think he's happy about it.

Lesson 043 主語の拡張③:wh 節・if/whether 節

フランク・N・スタイン博士とアンドロイドのジーニーが公園で散歩をしています。

Dr. Stein: Jeannie! You just dropped your coffee cup on the ground.

Jeannie: What's wrong with that?

Dr. Stein: That's called littering, and it's not good manners.

Jeannie: Why are manners so important?

Dr. Stein: Oh, dear. You're an android, so I need to explain these things to you.

Jeannie: I'm sorry, Dr. Frank N. Stein.

Dr. Stein: No need to apologize. Manners are important because what you do shows people who you are.

Jeannie: I understand now, Doctor. I won't litter anymore.

Dr. Stein: Thank you, Jeannie.

Lesson 044 目的語の拡張①:to 不定詞

ヨランダはマサルの英語がずいぶん上達したと感心しています。

ピーコック教授がジェシカに、なぜ考古学者を志したのかと質問しています。

Peacock: So, does that answer your question, Jessica?

Jessica: Yes, it does. Thank you, Professor.

Peacock: My pleasure. Now I have a question for you.

Jessica: For me?

Peacock: Yes. I'm curious. When did you decide to become an archaeologist?

Jessica: I thought I told you, but maybe you forgot.

Peacock: It's possible.

Jessica: When I was a high school student, I saw a movie about a famous archaeologist.

Peacock: And that really inspired you?

Jessica: Absolutely. Now I want to discover something fantastic like her.
