Listening Challenge!
Kyoko: Thank you, Jake. It’s nice to hear that from someone your age.
Jake: Ha-ha. Now, your career spans over half a century.
Kyoko: It feels unreal when you put it like that…
Jake: And most of those films have become classics.
Kyoko: Yes, I’ve been very lucky to work with many talented directors.
Jake: But I must say, your most recent movie is the most moving film I’ve ever seen.
Kyoko: Thank you. We put a lot of hard work into making it.
A: An actor who has recently retired.
B: A woman who knows a lot about classical music.
C: An actor who has had a long career.
Shiho: Yes, this time of the year is pleasant. It’s as good as it gets here.
Doug: I was thinking about driving to that gorge today. What’s it called?
Shiho: Takachiho Gorge. It’s popular with tourists these days.
Doug: We should get going as soon as possible. It takes a few hours to get there.
Shiho: Sounds good. I’ve seen pictures on the net, but I’ve never been there before. I’m excited to go.
Doug: Me too. It looks totally amazing.
A: Soon.
B: Tomorrow.
C: In a few hours.
Jessica: Should I be sitting down?
Peacock: Perhaps, yes. Please, have a seat.
Jessica: Thank you. So, what’s this about, Professor?
Peacock: We’re going back to that undersea pyramid.
Jessica: Going back? How? We don’t have the budget. It would cost at least 80,000 pounds to do it.
Peacock: I’ll use my personal funds. I am a bestselling author, you know.
Jessica: Are you planning to use that Japanese submarine again?
Peacock: Yes, I’ll contact Dr. Higashi this time.
Jessica: All right…
A: Visit the pyramids of Egypt with Dr. Higashi.
B: Go to the undersea pyramid again.
C: Buy a Japanese submarine.
Yui: In Japanese it’s called tamago kake gohan.
Carl: What does that mean?
Yui: It basically translates to “egg on rice.” It’s steamy rice with a raw egg on top.
Carl: A raw egg?
Yui: Yes. We use a very fresh egg.
Carl: And that’s it? Just crack an egg onto some rice?
Yui: No, no. First you beat the egg in a bowl. Then you pour it over the rice and add some soy sauce. I like to mix it all up, like this! So, how is it, Carl?
Carl: Mmmm! It’s so simple yet so delicious. It’s no less than a miracle!
Yui: I’m glad you like it.
A: Carl cracked a bowl.
B: Yui likes to add salt.
C: Carl thinks the dish is delicious.
