Old dog appreciated for scaring off burglar

　Japanese police have honored an old dog for helping in the arrest of a burglar.

　One night in May, the 17-year-old miniature dachshund named Lucy noticed that a man had broken into her owner’s home in Toyama Prefecture and began to bark wildly.

　The man took more than 100,000 yen in cash and was about to flee, but neighbors who heard Lucy’s barks rushed to the scene and surrounded him.

　Lucy’s owner, who’s in her 40s, was sleeping alone and unharmed.

　She said Lucy, who’s over 80 in dog years, has a problem with her legs and no longer takes walks.

　The owner said the dog barked fiercely and crashed into the side of her cage repeatedly.

　Lucy was presented with a certificate of appreciation and 30 packs of dog food at a police station in Namerikawa City. She dug into her reward right away.

泥棒を撃退した老犬に感謝状

日本の警察が泥棒逮捕に貢献したとして老犬を表彰しました。

富山県で5月のある晩、ルーシーという名の17歳のミニチュアダックスフンドが、飼い主の家に男が侵入したことに気付き、激しく吠え始めました。

男は現金10万円あまりを盗み逃走しようとしていたところでしたが、ルーシーの吠える声を聞いた近隣の住民らがその場に駆けつけ、男を取り囲みました。

ルーシーの飼い主である40代女性は、一人で寝ていてけがはありませんでした。

飼い主によると、ルーシーは人間の年なら８０歳を超えており、足が不自由で、もう散歩はしないのことです。

飼い主は、ルーシーは激しく吠えて自分の入っているケージの側面に体ごと何度もぶつけていた語っていました。

ルーシーには、滑川市の警察署で、感謝状とドッグフード３０袋が贈られました。 ルーシーはさっそくご褒美にかぶりついていました。
