Sho: Safe travels, Miki. Don’t forget about me.
Miki: Sho…I’m only leaving for five days. Don’t be so dramatic.
Mimiko: You are popular with the boys, Miki.
Yota: I’m amazed that you can study all days long.
Miki: And I’m amezed that you can practice soccer for hours. By the way, sorry about the prefectural tournament.
Yota: Don’t be. 2nd place is still a great result. Plus, some scouts may want to talk to me!
Mimiko: That’s incredible!
Yota: It will be tough, though. I am the most dedicated soccer player at my school, but there are many more like me in Japan.
Miki: Think of it as your entrance exam. Good luck, Yota!
Yota: You too, Miki!

Lesson 062 Where’s the barbecue?
Staff Member: On behalf of the Mountain Preservation Society, I would like to thank you all for attending the underbrush clearing today.
Sho: Um…David? Where’s the barbecue?
David: After we finish our work, Sho.
Staff Member: First, staff members with sickles will cut away the weeds. Next, everyone else will join in. Is everyone ready?
David: Sho, because the forest has recovered, the fireflies have returned to Satoyama Ravine. If the forest recovers, everything around it recovers, too.
Staff Member: Please work at your own pace. Once we are done, we are going to have a barbecue. OK, let’s get started.
Sho: Well, I may not get muddy today, but I will get sweaty.
Lesson 062 Summary
Sho and David are helping to clear the underbrush at Satoyama Ravine.
David says to Sho, “ If the forest recovers, everything around it recovers, too.”
A staff member tells everyone to work at their own pace.
Lesson 063 Go easy on me, will you?!
Yoko: Move your arms more. Raise your things. Keep your rtythm!
Mimiko: Go easy on me, will you?!
Yoko: If you want to run in the fall marathon, you’ll have to train hard for it.
Mimiko: Argh. I know.
Yoko: Look, the mayor has brought someone to Sakurayama.
Mimiko: Oh!
Yoko: What? Do you know him?
Mimiko: Aoki Ryuji. He’s the president of a famous recreational development company. People call him “Blue Dragon.”
Yoko: That’s the cute name.
Mimiko: Um…the blue comes from the blue fire that he breathes on his competition.
Yoko: He looks nice, though.
Mimiko: I wonder what he is doing here. I have a bad feeling about this.
Lesson 063 Summary
Yoko is training Mimiko for the fall marathon.
They see the mayor.
He is walking with someone.
It’s Aoki Ryuji, a business owner.
Mimiko says, “ I wonder what he is doing here?”.
Lesson 064 Everyone at the ryokan is really nice
Mr. Takamine: Come in, Mr. Callahan.
David: Thank you for inviting me, Mr. Takamine.
Mr. Takamine: And thank you for coming. I always look forward to receiving your pictures by e-mail.
David: Thank you.
Mr. Takamine: I especially enjoy your pictures of Satoyama.
David: I’m happy to hear that.
Mr. Takamine: I have an offer for you, David. I would like you to be the photographer for a travel guide we are publishing for foreign visitors. What do you think?
David: Sounds great!
Mr. Takamine: Come in, Ms. Sato.
Yumi: Good to see you again, David. Thank you for the photo of you and Sho.
David: No problem, Yumi. Everyone at the ryokan is really nice.
Lesson 064 Summary
Mr.Takamine has invited David to a meeting.
He says, ” I especially enjoy your pictures of satoyama.”
Mr. Takamine has an offer for David.
Yumi joins them.
She thanks David for the picture of him and Sho.
