but の「逆行」は、相手の意見を「押し返す」使い方につながります。
Today’s dialog
カズオとミーガンが北海道でラーメンを食べています。
Megan: So this is real miso ramen. It’s delicious.
Kazuo: Yes, there’s nothing quite like miso ramen.
Megan: Why aren’t you slurping your ramen? I heard it’s not bad manners to slurp noodles in Japan.
Kazuo: But I’m not Japanese.
Megan: Oh, I thought you were Japanese.
Kazuo: Actually, I’m British. My parents are Japanese. They immigrated to the UK a long time ago.
Megan: Oh, right. So, you don’t speak any Japanese at all?
Kazuo: Well, a little, but I’m not at all fluent.
