Listening Challenge!
Rachel: Yes, we are, Carl. And from now on you’ll always make them at home.
Carl: Aren’t bagels difficult to make?
Rachel: No, they’re easy.
Carl: So, are these ready to bake?
Rachel: Not quite yet. For now, we have to put the dough in boiling water.
Carl: You have to boil them first?
Rachel: Oh, yeah, for a few minutes. That’s very important. Then they go into the oven.
——————————————-
Rachel: Here we are.
Carl: Wow, now that’s what I call a bagel.
A: Put the dough in the fridge.
B: Boil the dough.
C: Clean the oven.
Ethan: Good, thanks.
Aoi: Great. So, today we’ll be working on your kanji writing skills.
Ethan: OK, but I don’t understand why it’s necessary. We have computers for that.
Aoi: Believe me, it will be useful later in life.
Ethan: Really? When?
Aoi: You’ll need to write kanji for various documents. So, after today’s lesson please fill in this form and then bring it back to me next Saturday.
Ethan: Oh, so it’s a practice test.
Aoi: Sort of.
A: Fill in the form.
B: Bring some documents.
C: Write kanji on a computer.
Aki: Has it been that long?
Peacock: Yes. Have you discovered what it says yet?
Aki: No, I haven’t yet, Brendan. But I’m getting very close.
Peacock: But you already said the symbols represented letters.
Aki: Right, but that’s just the start. It appears to be a cryptogram. A secret code.
Peacock: A code? You mean there’s a hidden message there?
Aki: Yes, I believe so. The writer of this message didn’t want others to know what it said.
Peacock: Fascinating.
A: The stone tablet seems to contain a hidden message.
B: Aki read and fully understood the code.
C: There is a cord in the stone tablet.
Mio: Thank you, Jake. How did you like it?
Jake: It was really funny. I wasn’t expecting that.
Mio: I’m so happy you said that. That’s just what I wanted to hear from you.
Jake: It’s much funnier than the other works you’ve written so far.
Mio: Yes, I planned it that way. I wanted to put as much humor as possible into
this book.
Jake: Well, you succeeded.
Mio: Thank you.
A: It’s very similar to her other works.
B: It’s a biography.
C: It’s very humorous.
