Japan ranks 111th in world gender equality
Japan has been downgraded to 111th in the world ranking of gender equality.
The World Economic Forum, which hosts an annual meeting of the world’s political and economic leaders in Davos, published the global gender gap report of the year 2016 in the areas of politics, economics, education and health.
Of 144 countries, Iceland ranked the most gender-equal in the world for an 8th straight year.
Japan was listed as the least gender-equal country among the Group of 7 industrialized countries. Germany ranked 13th, France 17th, the United Kingdom 20th, the United States 45th, Italy 50th and China 99th.

男女平等ランキング、日本は世界111位
日本は男女平等の世界ランキングで111位に格下げされている。
ダボスに世界の政治経済リーダー達が集まる会議を毎年主催する世界経済フォーラム（World Economic Forum）は、政治、経済、教育、健康の分野における2016年の世界各国の男女格差に関する調査報告を発表した。
(対象となった）144カ国のうち、男女平等が最も進んでいるとして、8年連続でアイスランドが1位となりました。
日本は、先進工業国7カ国の中では、男女平等の度合いが最下位でした。
ドイツは13位、フランスは17位、英国は20位、米国は45位、イタリアは50位、中国は99位です。

Britain introduces its first plastic banknotes
Britain has introduced the country’s first plastic banknote.
The new, polymer 5-pound note, which has begun circulating, is made of thin, flexible plastic. The note, worth about 6.6 dollars, has a portrait of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill on the reverse side. It’s about 15 percent smaller than its predecessor.
The Bank of England says the note has security features that make it harder to counterfeit. It says the strength of the material means the new notes are expected to last for about five years. That’s two-and-a-half times longer than the paper type. The bank also says the plastic notes can survive a spin in the washing machine, and that their longer life will reduce production costs.
The central bank plans to introduce a polymer 10-pound note in mid-2017 and a 20-pound note by 2020.

イギリス 初の「プラスチック紙幣」導入
イギリスは国内初のプラスチック紙幣を導入しました。
流通が開始された新しいポリマー製の5ポンド紙幣は、薄く柔軟なプラスチックでできています。 この紙幣は、約6.6ドルの価値があり、裏面に元首相ウィンストンチャーチルの肖像画がり、前身よりも約15％小さい。
イングランド銀行（Bank of England）によると、この紙幣には偽造を難しくするセキュリティ機能があると述べている。 また、新紙幣は材質が強いので耐用期間は約5年とみられている。それは紙の種類より2.5倍長い。 同銀行はまた、プラスチック製の紙幣は洗濯機の回転で生き残ることができ、耐用年数が延びることで紙幣の生産コストを削減できるとしている。
イングランド銀行は、2017年中頃にポリマー10ポンド紙幣を、2020年までに20ポンド紙幣を導入する予定です。

雑感
難しいですね。
私の実力ではほとんど聞き取れません(^^;
ですが、２年前に初めてラジオ英会話を聞いたときは全くのお手上げでしたが、今日数年ぶりにこの Special Week を聞いた感想は、「私も成長している」です o(^_^)0
やはり、毎日のラジオでの英語勉強は、少なからず役に立っている、と実感できました。
私のような６０歳過ぎてからでもこんな成長を感じられるんですから、若い人なんかが真剣に英語を学習すると、もっと成長が早いんでしょうね。
若い頃に戻りたい(^0^)
だけどまだまだ私は頑張ります！！！
