I’ll let things go
Asuka: Doug said, “I need to go back.” It seems like he wanted to tell me something else. I wonder if I should try and talk with him again. Oh, here’s a voicemail from Yukichi.
Yukichi（voicemail): Hi Asuka-chan, this is Yukichi. Thanks for your advice. I kept studying after I stopped using the hair wax. Guess what! Today I received a report from another practice exam I took. This score is much higher than the last one, almost reaching the passing score for Kisoei High! I’m so happy…OK…bye!
Asuka: Wow, Yukichi…. Things are going well. I guess I’ll let things go for now. If it’s really important, Doug will tell me again.
Who does Asuka want to talk with again? She wants to talk with Doug again.
How did Yukichi do on the practice exam? He got a much higher score than the last one.
TODAY’S CAN DO!
This score is much higher than the last one, almost reaching the passing score for Kisoei High!
HELP WITH GRAMMAR
It seems like he wanted to tell me something else.
He seems to be happy.彼は嬉しそうです。
It seems that he is happy. It を主語にして言い換える
アメリカ英語では seem that の代わりに「seem like +節」を使うことが特に口語ではある。
また Seems like …のように it が落ちることも多々ある。
例 Seems like he is happy.
- She seems happy.
- He seems a nice man.
- It seems(that) he cannot speak Japanese.
- They seem to have a good time.
- It seems like a good time.
「seem to ＋動詞の原形」４の形もよく使われる。
that節をともなうのが it seems that …３ その変形が ５の It seems like です。
GET IT RIGHT
Look! I have learned to type much faster than before.
It seems like he knows something about that.
