be late は「遅刻する」。promised not to では to 不定詞が promised の目的語になっていますが、not が否定していることに注意。「～しないと約束」です。look は「目を向ける」から「考えてみる」という意味で使われています。その後ろは wh 節「何が起こっているのか」。
2 Your goal is to be a train driver, right? That job requires punctuality.
punctuality は「時間厳守であること、几帳面さ」。
3 If you go on like this, you won’t be able to get your dream job!
go on は「続ける」。dream job は「理想の仕事」。

despite 「～にもかかわらず」は前置詞として使います。次の文の and yet はまとめて覚えましょう。「それなのに、それにもかかわらず」と文をつなげます。

you know はここでは実質的な意味合いを持っています。「知ってのとおり、当たり前のことですが」。さらに to be punctual が主語となり「時間厳守であることは」で文を展開します。essential は「本質的な、非常に重要な、欠くことのできない」。 requirement は「要求されるもの、必要条件」。

realize は「実現する」。
